An appreciation of the link between literature, art and landscape.
This Main Lesson is focused on The Romantic Movement as a critical moment in the perceived division of the Sciences and the Arts.
In order to understand the important and still relevant issues which were then playing out for the first time in the United Kingdom, Class 11 pupils look at some of the advances in science and technology that took place during the Enlightenment from the end of the 17th Century to the end of the 18th Century,
and the changes in society which ensued.
The Class then take a look at the biographies and works of a number of Romantic poets, writers and artists to get a picture of how they were challenging the Enlightenment views of the establishment and where their concerns still have relevance in the 21st Century.
As nature, the imagination and creative expression were particularly celebrated by the Romantics, this Main Lesson offers opportunities for mindful observations of nature, creative writing and artwork.
