In their Narratives Main Lessons Class 9 look at the origins of storytelling and how it evolved through different forms from ancient oral traditions, including Creation Myths, Epic poems and heroic tales, and Bardic poetry.
Along the way the class experiment with different forms of storytelling, including inventing their own creation myths, rewriting part of Beowulf, writing and performing a Battle Rap.
The Class discuss the fundamentals of a story, where they find stories in their lives and the power of story.
They read John Steinbeck’s ‘Of Mice and Men,’ discussed the importance of the story in educating us on the challenges others have faced in their lives and attempted to write a ballad on one of the characters and a number of other related creative writing exercises.
